MSc Earth, Climate & Technology
The master’s in Earth, Climate and Technology (EC&T) is a two-year programme. In the first year, you build core competencies in advanced observation and modelling techniques and geodata science. You apply these to design solutions for the energy transition and to study, assess and predict processes in the earth and climate system. You also choose your track and gain specialised knowledge and hands-on experience in either Climate and Earth Observation, or Subsurface energy and resource engineering.
In the second year, you can follow electives, or go abroad for an inter- or multidisciplinary project or internship. You’ll also choose one cross-over model, expanding your experience across fields. All of this this prepares you to make a well-informed decision for a master’s thesis research topic.
Climate and Earth Observation Discipline
The Earth and climate system is changing rapidly, from sea level rise and melting ice sheets, to extreme weather events such as storms, heat waves or flooding, and land subsidence. These changes have wide-reaching effects. Understanding and predicting them is key to developing solutions that protect society and the environment.
The Climate & Earth Observation track in the MSc Earth, Climate and Technology equips you with the tools to study, assess and predict processes in the Earth and climate system.
The Fieldwork
Fieldwork is a unique component of the Earth, Climate and Technology master’s programme. For the track Climate and Earth Observation, you’ll travel to Iceland to the plate boundary between North America and Europe, near the Krafla volcano. Working in teams, you’ll plan, test and carry out your own observational campaigns, collecting and interpreting data on the surface and atmosphere of this unique location.
